The images shown have to be considered as “particular” of an installation on the wall of 450×600 cm. It has been presented on 2009 in Palermo at the Francesco Pantaleone Gallery and on 2010 at Palazzo Riso, Museum of Contemporary Art of Sicily. The work “Palermo says” belongs to the serie “Rivolta” which collects works that develop, change, alter, support and deepen the concept of Revolt. By starting from a sentence of Albert Camus “I revolt, so we are”, my action relates with the alterations of other people.
People who, when it’s over, have something to say, and who wrote and will write again on the walls, people who have not ears, but that suddenly have mouth and mind, ideas and anger. Walls that tell the crisis of values and the stories of the city, the love and the hell, at the limit between endurance, indignation and violence. Wise and ingenuous writings, ignorant but necessary.
So the individual and the individualism (western illness) disappear among the streets, and become word of the human being for the human beings, word of solidarity, of empathy.
In order “to be” the human being must revolt, but his revolt has to respect the limit, break the individual barriers and make possible that other human beings, together, start “to be”.
Palermo Says is an archive of writings on walls of Palermo with my presence not as main characters, but as presence who give simply a face, an historical-temporal truth and authorship to those words that with the presence of a human being are enriched of responsibility as well. This is to make clear that behind there’s the human being and the courage to say, to disagree and disobey, in a country that has forgotten its people, values, quality and truth.
Notes: the 75% of the writings of Palermo Says don’t exist anymore because were delated by local operators, covered by other writings, consumed alone and by the rain and the time, fortunately are archived in order to tell us a part of our time, of our Italy and the city of Palermo.
Le immagini esposte sono da considerarsi come “particolare” di un’installazione a parete di cm 450×600, esposta nel 2009 a Palermo, alla Galleria Francesco Pantaleone, e nel 2010 a Palazzo Riso, Museo d’arte contemporanea della Sicilia. La serie raccoglie un insieme di opere che sviluppano, modificano, alterano, sostengono, approfondiscono il concetto di “rivolta”.
Partendo da una frase di Albert Camus “Io mi rivolto, dunque noi siamo”, nell’operaPalermo Says la mia azione si relaziona con alterazioni di altre persone. Persone che, colma la misura, hanno qualcosa da dire, e che hanno scritto e scriveranno ancora sui muri, che non hanno orecchie, ma che si ritrovano d’un tratto ad avere bocca e mente, idee e rabbia. Muri che raccontano la crisi di valori e le storie di una città, gli amori e le pene, al limite tra la sopportazione, l’indignazione e la violenza. Scritte sapienti, alcune ingenue, altre ignoranti ma tutte necessarie.
L’individuo e l’individualismo (malattia occidentale) scompaiono tra le vie e i quartieri, per diventare parole dell’uomo per l’uomo, parole di solidarietà, di empatia. Ecco che per “essere” l’uomo deve rivoltarsi, ma la sua rivolta deve rispettare il limite, abbattere le barriere individuali e far sì che gli altri uomini, venendo ad aggiungersi, comincino ad essere.
Palermo Says è un archivio di scritte su muro della città di Palermo con me non protagonista , ma prestato a dare semplicemtente un volto, una veridicità storico-temporale e una paternità a quelle parole che con la presenza di un uomo si caricano anche di responsabilità. A far intendere che dietro c’è l’uomo e anche il coraggio di dire, dissentire e disobbedire, in un paese che ha dimenticato la sua gente, i valori, la qualità, la verità.
n.b. il 75% delle scritte di Palermo Says non esistono più perche cancellate da addetti comunali, coperte da altre scritte, usurate dal sole e dalla pioggia e dal tempo, rimangono però archiviate a raccontare una porzione del nostro tempo, della nostra Italia e della città di Palermo.
